MaxTunity announce a business driven Technology Opportunity Newsletter (20/02/08)

MaxTunity, a vendor independent IT research and services company, have announced a Technology Opportunity Newsletter to provide a business driven snapshot of innovative IT vendors that could make a big impact on technology ROI.  The scale of information technology innovation is staggering and the choice is bewildering.  In addition to the traditional in house R&D teams of many technology vendors, there is a much larger community of open source expertise which is now being tapped by many organizations.  Add to this the philanthropic private sector bodies and vast pubic sector ICT research budgets to fund industry and University consortium's - the EU budget alone for ICT research is over €9bn in the current fiscal cycle.

According to various credible industry sources, some examples of expected high technology growth areas are highlighted below;

  • Semantic technology will grow from $2bn in 2006 to over $50bn in 2010
  • Master Data Management (MDM) will grow from $1bn in 2006 to $6bn in 2010
  • Business Process Management systems (BPMS) will grow from over $1bn in 2007 to over $6bn in 2011
  • Software as a Service (SaaS) will grow from $5bn in 2007 to over $11bn in 2011
  • Commercial open source software will grow from $12bn in 2007 to over $45bn in 2011 (all software estimated at $169bn in 2011)

The  expected 25 fold growth in semantic technology is perhaps a reflection of the massive R&D expenditure that has been invested in this area and its potential to quickly extract knowledge from the exponentially increasing volume of data.  There are currently almost 300 companies operating in this area, each offering a potential opportunity to exploit semantic technology in some way.  Adding the 1000's of established and emerging technology vendors means there is no shortage of technology opportunity, but there is a daunting amount of information to understand before this opportunity can be identified, verified and realized.

The vast quantity of information, rapid technology rate of change and varying levels of complexity make it difficult for many organizations to plot a profitable route forward.  However, the inability to master this complexity will place the organization at a disadvantage to those peers who have identified a strategic way forward.

The Technology Opportunity Newsletter will highlight some of the innovative vendors, starting with the fast growing semantic technology category during 2008.  To target a significant technology ROI it is vital that an organization has a good view of the potential available from relevant new information technology and innovative approaches.

Registration for the newsletter is free and the Q1 2008 issue will be released in March.

Launch of new business driven services to Maximize Technology Opportunity (20/02/08)

MaxTunity, a vendor independent IT reserach and services company, have launched a range of services to assist organizations in maximizing technology opportunity. Many organizations are struggling to effectively manage their existing IT infrastructure and the changes required to keep up with business needs.  The explosion of data also compounds the problem - IDC estimate that digital information will grow six fold over the four years to 2010 and that “information workers” spend;

  • 14.5 hours per week reading and answering email
  • 13.3 hours per week creating documents
  •   9.6 hours per week searching for information
  •   9.5 hours per week analyzing information

IDC estimates that an organization employing 1,000 knowledge workers loses $5.7 million annually just in time wasted having to reformat information as they move among applications. Not finding information costs that same organization an additional $5.3 million a year.

Whilst the information worker breakdown may be different for client organizations, focusing on innovative technologies, such as semantic and collaborative applications, may have the potential to radically change the economics.  By reducing email clutter, partially automating document creation and making searches more effective, valuable information workers are left with more time to perform analysis work which may be more valuable to the organization.  Analysis work itself can also be made more effective by deploying user tools such as Enterprise Mashups to quickly access and manipulate information.

Significant business gains are possible if these information processing inefficiencies are reduced by maximizing technology opportunity.  Management and users need to consider areas such as;

CEO / CFO / Senior Executives

  • is the technology investment aligned with the strategic objectives of the organization?
  • is the organization following best practice's and peer competitive?
  • is there a better, quicker, cheaper way?

CIO /  IT Director / IT Manager

  • what technology tools exist to abstract complexity and improve business & technical agility?
  • how do we move from an operational to strategic outlook aligned with business needs?
  • can the IT budget be better utilized to meet management and user needs?

'Line of Business' Managers / Users

  • how do we get better and quicker access to key information?
  • how can we improve processes and collaboration across various departments?
  • how do we more effectively capture and disseminate knowledge throughout the organization?

The new business driven services supplied by MaxTunity are focused entirely on addressing these areas and maximizing the technology ROI for clients.  MaxTunity are vendor independent and highlight low cost hosted SaaS and commercial open source software, as well as proprietary software, if they have the potential to radically improve client ROI. The opportunity to exploit the latest emerging technology and revitalize legacy technology with relatively low cost abstraction tools are also considered as part of the mix.
